A classic double header.

This is a classic promotional trailer for a double billed horror feature. It is that very pairing that we'll watch today. THE BLOOD SPATTERED BRIDE and I DISMEMBER MAMA!

Both films are available on YouTube so you can challenge yourself and see if you can remain calm and not go berserk like the poor idiot in the trailer above!

THE BLOOD SPATTERED BRIDE on YouTube.

I DISMEMBER MAMA on YouTube as well!

So first off, THE BLOOD SPATTERED BRIDE tells the tale of a newlywed couple staying at an old home. The house is filled with paintings of the husband's male ancestors but all of the paintings of the women are in the basement. One of them was a notorious killer that murdered her new husband. We then meet a woman named Carmilla that looks very much like the woman in the painting and the new bride befriends her. Through a series of nightmares and hallucinations, she falls under Carmilla's spell and the two form a lesbian relationship bound on murder and mayhem.

I DISMEMBER MAMA concerns a psychiatric patient named Albert that tried to kill his mother because he felt that all non virgin women are unclean whores. He escapes custody and heads home looking to finish off his mom. Along the way he becomes friends with a little girl named Annie. He likes her because she is pure in his eyes. But behind her back he continues to kill women to satisfy his bloodlust.

A fun duo of classic horror! Try to remain calm. Try not to lose your mind. It's THE BLOOD SPATTERED BRIDE and I DISMEMBER MAMA, brought to you by Screaming Streaming.

An evil doctor, cannibals, and zombies.

Now for a film that cross breeds horror genres together. A mad scientist, cannibals, and zombies all thrown in a blender and vomited out into a beautiful puddle of awesome.

                                                               ZOMBIE HOLOCAUST

                                                      ZOMBIE HOLOCAUST on YouTube

Click that link above to watch it. I would have embedded it but this is a PG-13 web blog and this one has a boobtastic screengrab frozen on it.

So here we have a series of cadaver mutilations happening at a hospital. We learn that an Indonesian orderly was obtaining body parts to be sent to a jungle island so we're off across the world to find out why.

Well this island is inhabited by blood thirsty cannibals that spend a good amount of time picking off victims in super gruesome fashion.

Or sometimes the cannibals end up getting it.

But even cannibals are afraid of zombies, which also inhabit the island. It's just not a good jungle to be loitering around in.

We soon learn that a famous surgeon named Dr. Obrero (Donald O'Brien) has been trying to make super humans by experimenting on the natives. But all he succeeds in doing is making crusty weeping zombies instead. Hey, it was worth a shot! That is your super basic plot and now for some information on the film. But first here's an amusing gif animation.

Yes, that is a mannequin's arm popping off. I always loved that silly business.

This film is also known as DR. BUTCHER M.D. although that version has an additional unrelated scene tacked onto the opening that was taken from an unfinished film called TALES TO RIP YOUR HEART OUT and also has slightly different edits for the sake of pacing.

It also shares some similarities to Lucio Fulci's ZOMBIE and even stars Ian McCulloch in basically the same role. It also reuses some shots such as the burning church. In some markets the film was titled ZOMBIE 3.

This is a campy classic with all the dopey acting, excessive nudity, gratuitous amounts of gore, and insane inconsistencies. In one scene, a woman discovers a maggot covered head in her bed which she naturally freaks out over. But she's not reacting to the head, but to a symbol inscribed with blood on the sheet. Yeah, if I saw a severed maggoty head on my bed, I'd be far more concerned about a rune soaked into the mattress.

This aint Willy Wonka, kids.

Some people might question why I picked this film for today's Screaming Streaming. While not exactly horror per say, it is disturbing and controversial so I am bending the rules and allowing it here. Behold!

                                                                    SWEET MOVIE

                                                                 Here is the film itself.

This is going to be difficult to describe as it is a difficult movie to watch. Here goes my best shot.

SWEET MOVIE, made in 1974, tells two parallel stories. One story follows the winner of a virginity contest that marries a rich milk tycoon (John Vernon) but she leaves him when he exposes her to a degrading sexual lifestyle. Ol Dean Wormer is sort of a pervert as you'll see. He fits right into this bizarre film. She ends up in France in a rather amusing way and ends up in a rather amusing embarrassing situation with a Latin singer before being introduced to a commune that practices some really disgusting acts. Use your imagination. OK, think dirtier than that. More. Even beyond that. OK, let me say wearing a raincoat might be in her best interest. Catch my drift now? She eventually ends up advertising chocolate in the nude.

I added the pixelation myself but it shows you the goods when you watch it.

The second narrative of the film takes place aboard a boat with a huge caricature of Karl Marx on the prow.

Aboard is a woman who makes love to a sailor in a room full of sugar and candy. She warns him not to fall in love with her or he's a dead man. She also has a thing for kids. It's pretty nasty although thankfully this part is implied. She also apparently thinks killing kids is cool too.

This movie is beyond strange and it is also pretty gross and shocking. So there is that warning. I'm pretty jaded myself so it doesn't phase me but polite society didn't take very kindly to this film. It was banned or heavily censored in a number of countries. As a matter of fact, the actress that plays the woman in the commune storyline actually quit the film after getting further horrified at the actions she was being asked to perform in the film. As a result, the second storyline with the sugar ship was added.

Your average neighborhood monster hole.

Today we descend into the dark chasm.

It's THE PIT AKA TEDDY from 1981.

And this is what you came for. The movie itself, right?

THE PIT is a Canadian horror film about a weird outcast boy named Jamie. All the kids make fun of him and his only friend is Teddy, his stuffed bear. Teddy talks to him and the audience hears what Teddy says. Jamie has discovered a pit in the woods with furry monsters that he calls "tra-la-logs" living at the bottom. He feeds them meat but when Teddy suggests he start luring his tormentors to the hole, well, shit! Ain't that a great idea?

When Jamie is left with a babysitter named Sandy, he develops a case of puppy love for her and even confides to her about his secret and the tra-la-logs in the woods. This goes over about as you might expect. Eventually they get out of the hole, which is not good.

A small posse ends up dealing with the furballs and all is well. More or less. I can't give away everything.

This is an odd little horror flick and worth a watch. A nice find that was suggested as a possible entry and I must say I agree.

Best Movie Title Ever: The Sequel

Yesterday I shared the German gore film, VIOLENT SHIT with you. And now we'll continue the saga with this one.

VIOLENT SHIT II: MOTHER HOLD MY HAND

Here is the film on YouTube. Unfortunately this version has no subtitles.

VIOLENT SHIT II picks up twenty years after the events of the first film, with Karl Jr. picking up where his father left off. His adoptive mother gives him a machete to assist him in avenging his father's death. Karl boldly attacks joggers, drug dealers, campers, construction workers, and much more, allowing his mother to drink their blood. Karl's methods are a bit graphic and one scene involving large fish hooks lingers in my memory. Karl wears a metal mask in this film and that mask like Jason's hockey mask, is iconic to the series.

Andreas Schnaas, who created the original film and played Karl Sr. returns with this sequel where he plays the son of his original character. This movie is absurd and silly although the production values are much higher and the gore looks way better. This lead the way for an over the top bloodbath with VIOLENT SHIT III: INFANTRY OF DOOM, sometimes simply called ZOMBIE DOOM. And supposedly a new VIOLENT SHIT film is also now available although I have yet to see it.

My apologies for the lack of subtitles on this film. Sometimes you have to take what you can get with YouTube. It's still an enjoyable bloodfest and actually a better film than the original.

Best movie title ever!

And you have German filmmaker, Andreas Schnaas to thank for it.

                                                                 It's VIOLENT SHIT!

Here is the shit that is violent. Hence the title, VIOLENT SHIT!

Meet the man of the hour, Karl. As a kid he murdered his mother with a meat cleaver. No, not a sling blade, smartass. A meat cleaver. Years later he escapes custody and begins hacking his way across the countryside. Because that's what movie maniacs do. But he does it with such gusto and glee that we are treated to repeated scenes of humorously colored hot pink gore.

Later, Karl faints and through a vision we learn that a demon convinced him to kill his mother. You see Karl has a tendency to randomly pass out from time to time. He also has a religious run in with Jesus on the cross that is nonsensical and silly. The ending of the film also falls under that same description.

Violent Shit was made in 1989 with a budget of $2000 so don't go expecting a big production. This is a micro budget German gore film. It is what it is. But it does have one of the best movie titles of all time so it has that going in its favor.

Wednesday shorts

Today we're going to take a look at three classic short films. Each one is very different from the others but each is a classic. Let's take a look at them one at a time.

Film #1 is AN OCCURRENCE AT OWL CREEK BRIDGE.

This short film is actually the longest the three reviewed today. This is a 1962 Academy Award winning film based on the story by Ambrose Bierce. It was also used as an episode of The Twilight Zone in 1964. Odds are you've seen this one but assuming you haven't I'll quickly lay out the plot.

During the Civil War, a man is about to be hanged off a bridge. The rope breaks and the man ends up swimming down the river, avoiding gunfire and attempts at capture. He makes his way back to his old home and as he embraces his beloved the rope drops and you realize the escape was a fantasy in the moments before his execution. Yep, I spoiled a film from 1962 that everyone has seen. But the point is you can watch it again on YouTube.

                                                          Film #2 is THE CONTRAPTION.

As the YouTube file above states, this stars Richard O'Brien. He plays a nameless man who spends the short duration of the film building something in his basement. You'll have to watch this one to see exactly what he's making. It's pretty freaky and one short you should remember for a while. Definitely worth your few minutes to watch it.

And now for the final short of the day. I saved the scariest one for last.

Peekaboo! It's THE DUMMY from 1982!

                                                             The Dummy at YouTube

Click that link to watch it as the YouTube uploader has disabled embedding for this film.

This one aired on HBO and USA during the early 80s and it's one scary little film. It's a killer ventriloquist dummy. That's all you need to know, but it's so eerie and creepy because the makers of this film obviously know the scary formula. They know the tricks of the horror trade to get this film to deliver a major case of the willies. This is genuinely a frightening little film.

So there you go, three short films with a widely different range. From the psychological horror of AN OCCURRENCE AT OWL CREEK BRIDGE, to the weird enigma of just what Richard O'Brien is constructing in THE CONTRAPTION, to the truly terrifying tale of THE DUMMY. We're here to serve.
